The Office of Language and Culture (OLCE) has shared the information for their summer support offerings for Enligsh Learners (ELs). These programs are VOLUNTARY and are meant to provide additional support to ELs over the summer months.
Here is a description of the programs that Ray students are possibly eligible for: English Learners Summer Support – Elementary Program Description: English Learners (ELs) Summer Support is designed to develop English language proficiency and develop academic literacy development across the content areas for qualifying ELs in grades 2 through 7. Target population: English Learners in grades 2 through 7 who have not yet met the ISBE English language proficiency criteria (4.8 overall composite score on ACCESS 2017) and have at least a 3.5 literacy proficiency level (reading and writing ) on ACCESS 2017 are eligible. If 2017 ACCESS scores are not available, use the 2017-2018 English language proficiency screener (WIDA Screener). English Learners Newcomer/Refugee Program – Elementary & High School Program Description: This Summer Program is designed to provide refugee and newcomer ELs in grades 2-11 with targeted language, literacy, and math instruction. The program addresses the needs of recently-arrived refugee and newcomer students who have had limited or interrupted formal education and whose academic achievement lags behind their peers. Target population: Recently-arrived, non-U.S.-born ELs and refugees (students who have been in the U.S. for less than 3 yrs [2nd graders less than 1 yr, 3rd graders less than 2 yrs, 4th-11th graders less than 3yrs]) and who have a 2017 ACCESS or 2017-2018 WIDA Screener literacy proficiency level below 3.5.
